GENERAL EXPERIENCE
“Benedictine China Study Tour” (Summer 2006)
Catholic education and priest friends provided an invaluable opportunity to travel in China on a Study Tour with a religious/political bent. The other attendees were Catholic priests, professors, nuns, and professionals. Luckily for me, the emphasis of the trip was not so much on religious contemplation as it was on investigating the limited functioning of independent religious, business, and political organizations within a Communist government. We saw some amazing things and heard some incredible stories, it was the most enlightening experience I’ve had so far.
Narragansett Bay Lobsters, Inc. (Summers 2006-2007)
Clad in yellow chest-high waders, I arrived on the docks of Galilee, Rhode Island promptly at 5:00 AM every morning to wheel crates of lobsters from the rusted boats the company contracted and into the cold company tanks from which seafood distributors from across the continent would buy in bulk. The cold shoulders of taciturn fishermen aching to be Ernest Hemingway were warmed by the kind and casual friendship of my co-laborers Manuel and Spanky, who were most assuredly illegal immigrants.
Customer Service (Summer 2008)
Worked as a barrista at “Podhead CafĂ©” in Narragansett, RI. While frantically making macchiatos and espressos to exacting standards for impatient soccer moms, I improved in patience, pressure-work and multi-tasking ability. Also fake smiling.
SKILLS
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint. Able to work quickly and effectively under pressure and skilled with customer interaction and presentation. Highly skilled as an editor for grammar, technique, presentation, and persuasiveness in writing proposals, grants, flyers, etc. Basic knowledge of filming technique and editing tools such as Final Cut Pro.
